IS MARTIAL ARTS RIGHT FOR MY CHILD? A PARENT'S GUIDE

If you've been wondering whether martial arts could be good for your child, you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions we hear from parents in Caernarfon — and the honest answer is: for most kids, it's one of the best decisions you can make.

Here's what you actually need to know.

It's Not About Fighting

The first thing most parents get wrong is thinking martial arts is about teaching kids to fight. It's the opposite. At PMA Martial Arts Caernarfon, every class is built around discipline, respect, and self-control. Kids learn when not to use what they know just as much as they learn the techniques themselves.

What Ages Can Start?

We work with children from age 3 upwards. At that age, kids are ready to begin their martial arts journey in a fun, structured environment. Our Little Dragons programme is perfect for younger children, while our junior classes for ages 7 and up ran 6 days a week in Caernarfon.

What If My Child Is Shy or Lacks Confidence?

This is actually one of the most powerful things martial arts does. Many of our students started out shy, reluctant, or low on confidence — and within a few months, the change in them is noticeable. Not just in class, but at school and at home too. Parents tell us this more than anything else.

What If They've Never Done Anything Like This Before?

Perfect. Every student starts as a beginner. Our classes are structured so that no experience is needed — your child will never be thrown in the deep end. They progress at their own pace through a clear, structured curriculum with regular belt assessments every three months.

Is It Safe?

Absolutely. We use the best quality roll-out mats, and all training is supervised by experienced instructors. Injuries are rare, and all students are covered by insurance. Safety is always our first priority.

What Does It Cost?

We offer a 30-day trial for £49.99, which includes a t-shirt and either boxing gloves or a gi — no other equipment needed to get started. After that, membership is £79 per month.

How Do I Know If It's Right for My Child?

The simplest way is to come and try it. We offer a free trial class so your child can experience it for themselves before you commit to anything. Most kids who try it don't want to leave — in fact, over 90% of trial students go on to join as members.
